Three different candidatures for Sabadell Festa Major's poster contest.

Sabadell celebrates every year its Festa Major, an event in which a lot of celebrations happen, celebrating the culture and history of the city. Every year, they launch a call to all designers and artists to participate in a contest to create the poster for the festivities, if picked the contestant will earn a price.
Sabadell features two main distinct attractions from other cities major festivities, its "Demonis" creatures of the devil that spit fire and launch firecrackers through the city and the Sabadell "ceba" that honors the towns origins as a place to drop onions. That derived then into Ceba -delland eventually Sabadell.
Trying to honor each of these things, I prepared three options, the first one (and my personal favorite) highlights the rich Catalan heritage of the city by merging the regional flag with the local one (in which an onion appears). This is then presented as stripes and in different posters, all speaking the same visual language but with a different look to them.
The second option, tries to focus on the "Demonis" it takes the shape of the creature and through an extrusion creates a 3D model that is then applied onto a line background with two colors, the green background is used as a reference to the green onion on sabadell's flag.
The third option stems from the same idea of the onion as the first one, but in a less political approach gives all the importance to the onion, emphasis on its peeling skin with is applied on a pattern in a seemingly unimportant way. This is the boldest approach in terms of style and my second favorite.
Sabadell is distinguished by two unique cultural hallmarks that set it apart from other cities' major festivals. The first is the iconic "Demonis," fiery devil-like figures that parade through the streets, breathing fire and scattering firecrackers. The second is the Sabadell "ceba," a tribute to the town's historical association with onion trading, which linguistically evolved from "Ceba-dell" to the present-day "Sabadell." In homage to these cultural elements, I have crafted three design options.
The first option (and my preferred choice) celebrates Sabadell's rich Catalan legacy. It creatively fuses the regional and local flags, incorporating the emblematic onion into a striped motif. This design is adapted across various posters, each maintaining a consistent visual language.
The second design is inspired by the dynamic "Demonis." It captures the essence of these mythical creatures in a 3D extruded model set against a dual-tone line background. The green hue serves as a nod to the green onion featured on Sabadell's flag, symbolizing the city's vibrant spirit.
The third alternative is derived from the symbolic onion, similar to the first, but adopts a less politicized stance. It centers on the imagery of the onion's layered skin, which is stylized into a striking pattern. This concept represents the most avant-garde style among the options and ranks as my secondary preference.
