Scissor Mag, a radical publication that highlights underrepresented artists.

Brief

Scissormag is a publication ran by two working-class women who see an issue with the disproportionality present in creative industries. With a focus on connecting and elevating young creatives from all backgrounds, they give new voices room to be heard, without having to know someone on the inside.

The first issue, female hysteria, explores the social caricatures created to shame and contain womxnhood. They challenge the label of hysterical assigned to their biology, spaces, and expression by capturing the diversity of the female experience and unfixing the archaic, singular identity that has, for so long, attempted to define us. Scissormag defines womanhood as the lived experience of anyone who identifies with this term.

Solution

The resulting magazine, travels page after page through a color pallette made of different skin tones and body features of women, each one of the featured artists is given a different section and design while maintaining some general common elements such as margins and body of text to ensure cohesiveness throughout pages. Images speak better than words, so I recommend you take a look at it, maybe even purchase it and judge for yourselves at the following link.
